Fic: Jigsaw

Title: Jigsaw
Characters: MCR
Wordcount: 356
Disclaimer: I know none of the guys, I know none of their thoughts and I make no profit.
Notes: My third attempt in bandom. My second is saved in a random document, doesn’t flow well and needs lots of work. It will probably never surface. Jigsaw would be a wasjig were it not for the fact that it totally has a picture. This is the first time I've written MCR. Jigsaw was completely prompted by this picture.

Whenever anyone asks about Bob joining the band, people always say how well he fit in, how he really fits in, “he just fitted, y’know?” While everyone else seems satisfied, Mikey kinda thinks it’s a cop out answer, because they all fit. That’s why they work.

Bob, Mikey supposes, really does fit though. It was pretty much the case that they had a Bob-shaped hole waiting to be filled. He fitted just right.

Whereas when it was Frank joining the band, it wasn’t that he didn’t fit, he was just so damn excited that he would have made himself fit anywhere. He wouldn’t have fucking noticed if you'd squeezed him between the floor and the drum kit. Hell, he’d probably try it on a dare.

Ray. Ray fits somewhere that people too often assume is the background, when in reality it’s somewhere super central and everywhere all at once. Sorta like his hair - he gets everywhere and it’s not even annoying, just freaking awesome. And Mikey just compared Ray’s place in the band to his hair - that sort of shit is worthy of Gee’s most warped thoughts.

Gee. Gerard doesn’t fit so much as demand a space with his ‘bigger than any arena’ stage presence. Gee - just that little bit more pronounced, more played up and more dressed up than the rest of them. The focal point of their jigsaw.

Then there’s Mikey himself. Frank likes to tell Mikey that ‘for one lanky bitch he sure can fold in on himself’. It’s not that Mikey’s quiet, and he’s not unnoticeable. It’s just not necessary that he be noticed, or at least that’s how he thinks about it. If people weren’t to notice Gee, it wouldn’t work at all. It’s not that he’s in his brother’s shadow either, because he’s never felt like that. Mikey has his place, it’s just difficult for him to define. Everyone else’s places fit together, and Mikey would know if he didn’t fit. He knows he does fit. He’s just not sure how.

Gerard knows where Mikey fits. “He doesn’t live in my shadow. He’s there because he has my back.”
